In the three years that the Pac-12 has recognized a regular season champion, the Utes have won or shared a piece of the title every year. That streak is in jeopardy now.

Good move coach, because now there is a whole lot of drama surrounding No. 4 Utah’s meet against No. 6 Cal on Friday at 6 p.m. in the Huntsman Center.

The Utes have Oregon State and Arizona remaining in conference action and Cal has Stanford and Arizona .No. 4 Utah vs. No. 6 CalThat the Utes find themselves in a must-win situation is a little humorous to Farden, since he was one of the coaches pushing for the regular season title to be used. The standings situation does add to the drama the Utes find themselves in after losing to Arizona State for the first time since 2003. Utah is trying to make up for the absence of Grace McCallum, who is sidelined with a hyperextended knee.

“This is what makes gymnastics exciting and why it’s growing, because of this parity,” said Farden, noting Cal, Oregon State and Arizona all beat the Utes last year. “We know what our position is and everybody is rising to the occasion and wanting to knock off good ole Utah. It is a badge of honor of some sorts.”
