Two officials from the PGA Tour testified before a Senate panel, defending the US-based golf tour's decision to end a rivalry with the Saudi-backed LIV circuit and form a unified commercial entity

WASHINGTON, July 11 - U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal tore into a "repressive" Saudi regime on Tuesday and called the PGA Tour's framework agreement with the country's Public Investment Fund an attempt by Saudi Arabia's government to "buy influence" in U.S. sports.

"A regime that has killed journalists, jailed and tortured dissidents, fostered the war in Yemen, and supported other terrorist activities," added Blumenthal, who spoke of a feeling of "betrayal." "There is something that stinks about this path that you're on right now because it is a surrender and it is all about the money and that's the reason for the backlash that you see,” the senator said.
