The U.S. Department of Education is investigating the removal of LGBTQ-themed books from the library of the Granbury, Texas, school district.

Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroftfor library books that might appeal to the “prurient” — meaning sexual — interests of minors. Ashcroft’s proposed new rule does not include a more-detailed definition or include examples of which specific books would be restricted as appealing sexually to children or teenagers.

“I acknowledge that there are men that think they’re women and there are women that think they’re men,” Glenn said, according to a leaked recording of the meeting. “In this case it was made very clear, because the superintendent kind of said the quiet part out loud,” Kempf said. “It’s pretty clear that that kind of motivation is animating a lot of these policies nationwide.”
