Netflix's Unknown: The Lost Pyramid, the first in a four-episode documentary series called Unknown premiering in July 2023, follows Egyptologist Zahi Hawass and a team of archeologists searching for the Pyramid of Huni at a dig site near the Saqqara necropolis. Despite the best efforts of other Egyptologists, the Third Dynasty pyramid built by King Huni has never been found, and Dr. Hawass hopes to be the first to find the 4,000-year-old tombs beneath it. Nearby, his protégé Dr.
Hawass began his career in the '80s at a time when few Egyptians had authority over their own dig sites, and in his fight to preserve Egypt's heritage, he's been able to keep artifacts in the country rather than watch them be taken to foreign museums or claimed by foreign investors. His major discoveries include the Tombs of the Pyramid Builders, the Osiris Shaft at the Giza Pyramid, and the Valley of the Golden Mummies at Bahariya Oasis.
Does Hawass Find The Lost Pyramid Of Huni In Saqqara? As Hawass and Waziri race against each other to find something big at their respective dig sites, the documentary takes on a frenetic pace, complete with beads of sweat forming on the brows of the excavators.
While most of the remains were well maintained, some were too badly eroded by time, and knowing that the less-advanced process of mummification from the Old Kingdom meant that the skeleton would be badly damaged if handled, Hawass left these remains alone. He focused on the objects, amulets, jewelry, statues, and other funerary items found in connection with their burial, many of which looked freshly carved and painted.
