United put the GI community on a seesaw. At the start of Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month in March, the multibillion-dollar company announced it would enforce prior authorization for many critical GI procedures used to diagnose colorectal cancer and monitor disease progression. After an uproar from patients and health care providers, UHC changed its strategy at the 11th hour.
