Two Bay Area men were arrested in San Francisco and Vacaville and ultimately extradited to Georgia to face felony ammo charges.
SACRAMENTO — Two Bay Area residents were arrested and extradited to Georgia to face federal felony ammunition possession charges after they allegedly recorded a video of themselves shooting firearms at a gun range there, court records show.
Gregory Bell and Enrique Arenal were arrested in late April, and extradited to Georgia in May, where they both face charges of being felons in possession of ammunition. Prosecutors wrote in court records that the charges were based on a video the defendants recorded shooting various weapons at a paper target at a gun range in Atlanta.
Arenal had previously been convicted of possessing a loaded gun inside the San Francisco International Airport, stemming from an August 2020 incident where the gun was discovered during a TSA screening. After that discovery, Arenal fled the airport into a taxi, leaving his belongings and ID behind. He was sentenced to nine months for that conviction, prosecutors said.
Bell was not allowed to possess guns due to a 2013 felony conviction for receiving stolen property and several probation violations. He was also a suspect in a 2018 Oakland nonfatal shooting but never charged, prosecutors said. Bell was arrested April 22 in San Francisco, and Arenal was arrested that same day in Vacaville, court records show. Bell was subsequently freed on a $50,000 bond but a federal magistrate agreed to detain Arenal while the case is pending, court records show.
