Someday, your favorite football player might take the field wearing Tua Tagovailoa eye black. The Miami Dolphins quarterback has filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for his name.
Tagovailoa has played three seasons with the Dolphins. In 2022, he led the NFL in passing-efficiency rating, even though he missed four regular-season games because of two concussions.
At Alabama, Tagovailoa played in two CFP national championship games, including rallying the Crimson Tide to a 26-23 overtime victory against Georgia in the 2017 title contest. In 2018, Tagovailoa won the SEC Offensive Player of the Year Award and finished as the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. In the 2019 season, Tagovailoa sustained a dislocated hip and posterior wall fracture during an SEC game against Mississippi State on Nov. 16. He didn’t play again for Alabama, but after being chosen by Miami with the fifth pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, he was able to begin his rookie season on the Dolphins’ active roster.
