Maybe Rep. Liz Cheney ought to take calls to run for president seriously.

In Utah, won by former President Donald Trump in the last two elections, the Wyoming Republican is leading Trump in early 2024 primary consideration.Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is first at 24.2%, followed by Cheney at 16.4% and Trump at 14.6%. No other potential candidate is at double digits.

“His power, his command over the Republican Party seems to be waning to the point that when you ask Utah Republicans if they would consider a different candidate, they clearly would,” Jason Perry, director of the Hinckley Institute of Politics at the University of Utah, told the paper. And it’s not the first to show well for Cheney, who lost her House seat for being critical of Trump and taking a leading role in the House investigation of the Jan. 6 crisis.
