Parts of eastern India are preparing for torrential rain and strong winds as a tropical cyclone warning is in effect for the Andhra Pradesh coast -- as other portions of the country battle extreme heat.

While the cyclone may bring some relief from the heat, it will be too far away to affect most of the country -- and could make the heat worse for some.Severe Cyclonic Storm Asani is in the Bay of Bengal, with winds of 100 to 110 kph and higher gusts, making it equivalent to a tropical storm. It should make landfall on India's eastern coast early Wednesday morning , the Joint Typhoon Warning Center said.

A forecast map shows most of India will endure high temperatures Friday: over 32 degrees C/90 degrees F ; over 38 degrees C/100 degrees F ; or over 43 degrees C/110 degrees F .Severe heat wave conditions will remain as temperatures could rise another 2 to 3 degrees Celsius during the next few days, according to the India Meteorological Department. This heat wave continues a brutal stretch of heat in April across parts of the country, including New Delhi.
