Comedian Trevor Noah will leave his helm as host of the Daily Show just before the end of the year.
Noah, 38, has been Comedy Central’s late-night talk show host for seven years, having taken over for Jon Stewart in 2015 as the youngest of the hosts.
Paramount Global announced Wednesday that Noah would step down as the Daily Show host come Dec. 8. Leading up to his departure, shows will highlight the best moments of Noah’s time as host, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Noah’s announcement that he would be stepping back from hosting the Daily Show reportedly came as a shock to Paramount and Comedy Central executives. While announcing Noah’s final show date, Paramount Global and Comedy Central noted that the Daily Show would return from a holiday break on Jan. 17. “The Emmy-winning franchise will embark on a reinvention as it has done so successfully in the past,” the announcement reportedly read.Paramount did not say who it was considering as a possible new host.
