The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. for parts of northeast Illinois and northwest Indiana. The watch covers Cook County and all the surrounding collar counties extending south to Kankakee and west to Dixon.

Tornado watches are issued when weather conditions show an increased risk for tornadoes, according to the NWS.The risk for a tornado in the Chicago area will likely be the highest between 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday evening, according to Kevin Donofrio, science and operations officer with the National Weather Service.
The city of Chicago issued a statement saying efforts are underway to coordinate response efforts around the potentially severe wather. Residents are asked to not use extra water to shower, do laundry or do dishes during storm conditions to avoid putting extra stress on the sewer system.A tornado watch has been issued for parts of Illinois and Indiana until 10 PM CDT
