02/1955 - Clayton A. Johnson, 19, of Algoa, buried packages containing dismembered bodies of slain Williams brothers believing they were"spoiled deer meat." Calvin, 9, and Conrad, 8, Williams were given sleeping pills, strangled, dismembered and stored by their mother, Ann Williams, in the family's apartment refrigerator until she asked Johnson, a family friend, to bury them. Johnson later became suspicious, dug up the packages to discover the bodies and call the police.
Williams was living in a mobile home in Pasadena and working as a store clerk there when she received a letter from her husband who was incarcerated in Georgia on an auto theft charge. The letter, according to a 1998 Chronicle article, left her distraught and set in motion the gruesome plans to kill her children. The boys, Calvin, 9, and Conrad, 7, were given sleeping pills, then strangled and later dismembered in an apartment she had previously rented in the 4700 block of Clay.
She wrapped the remains in bundles and asked a friend to bury what she said was spoiled deer meat in Algoa in Galveston County. Later that year she pleaded guilty and received two life sentences. Williams was paroled to a Houston halfway house in 1980, then disappeared before being tracked to Idaho in 1997. By the late 1990s, she was at TDCJ's Mountain View Unit as the oldest woman in the Texas prison system. Even then, she told the Chronicle she was innocent in the deaths of her children.
In this front-page article published on this day in 1955, Williams was baptized in a sheet metal tank inside the Harris County Jail. It was the second such baptism there in the past year.
