The jazz legend had been battling Alzheimer’s disease since 2016.Tony Bennett has died at the age of 96 after a seven-year battle with. The jazz singer, who spent nearly eight decades in the music industry, died on Friday at his home in New York City. His publicist, Sylvia Weiner, announced his death via a post to the late singer’s Instagram.
The short statement made clear that even in his final days, Bennett was doing what he loved best: singing. “Tony left us today but he was still singing the other day at his piano and his last song was, ‘Because of You,’ his first #1 hit. Tony, because of you we have your songs in our hearts forever.”Adoring fans flooded the comments section of his Instagram post with messages of love. One wrote: “This life was so much more beautiful because of your music and your voice. Thank you for leaving your songs with us so we can remember you every day.” Another wrote, “A true legend and gentleman.
Celebrities paid tribute to the late singer too. Tim McGraw and Bridget Moynahan were among the first. “Sad to hear about Tony Bennett. His remarkable voice and timeless songs have touched the hearts of generations… A true icon and I was honored to get to work with him. Our hearts are with his family and friends,”
