Colorado Teardrops' electric vehicle charging camper trailer is tailored to owners who want to explore further, longer.
It's a well-known fact that towing a travel trailer can kill fuel economy, giving owners of gasoline- or diesel-powered tow vehicles range anxiety when traversing remote, hilly areas. Luckily, infrastructure for refueling is generally well established nationwide, allowing prudent adventurers enough opportunity to top off. For time spent truly off-grid, travelers have come up with plentiful backup solutions for carrying more fuel., and even the beaten path is no cakewalk.
Colorado Teardrops is on a mission to change that with its electric vehicle adventure teardrop trailers, EV charging travel trailers designed specifically to give electric vehicle owners the ability to access more of the great outdoors. In addition to doing everything regular campers do, the trailers, still in development, also act as backup charging stations for the electric tow vehicles they're behind.
The company has a whole lineup of classic teardrop trailers, with The Boulder comparable in size to the largest model, the Mount Massive. The Boulder weighs in at 2,200 pounds dry with the 75kWh battery pack, topping the Mount Massive by about 730 pounds—but to be fair, that's still pretty light, and The Boulder is nearly two feet longer for an overall length of 195 inches. The maximum loaded weight comes in at 3,500 pounds.
Colorado Teardrops expects to start deliveries of The Boulder in the first half of 2023 and is accepting reservations now. It's listed at $55,000, but early adopters can knock that price down to $45,000.
