Los Altos approved its first 100% affordable housing project, set to aid very-low income families in the area
Los Altos is set to get it first all-affordable housing development in the city right off El Camino, a project aimed at helping Silicon Valley’s lowest income families in one of its most expensive communities.
Median household income in Los Altos is about $240,000 annually, one of the highest in Silicon Valley and the nation. “We are fortunate to be partners with the county of Santa Clara and EAH Housing [a non-profit housing development organization] for developing this project,” Mayor Anita Enander said. “EAH Housing has been very responsive in incorporating suggestions from the community including a beautiful entry, safe parking, and windows that preserve privacy for nearby homes. We look forward to welcoming the new residents of 330 Distel Circle to our city — some of whom may already work here.
The approval is the culmination of months of planning between Los Alto and Santa Clara County officials, both of which held community meetings on how best to tackle building affordable housing to reduce homelessness.
