A study that took a look at environmental factors in relation to skin deemed one city in Pennsylvania to be the worst for it.
— a company of “indoor air quality experts” — recognizes that the environment in which one lives can have a significant affect on their skin.that compiled data from the EPA and the American Lung Association’s “State of the Air” report in order to see which cities in the U.S. had the worst environments for skin health. Things such as water hardness and UV index data were also taken into account.
Philadelphia was deemed the absolute worst city in Pennsylvania for Keystone State residents’ skin, specifically. On the very bright side, though, there were several spots throughout the state that got high marks with regards to good environments for skin: Hazelton, Altoona, and Scranton. Two other locations — Lancaster and Pittsburgh — were roughly mid-grade.
However, the scores of these cities were nowhere near as bad as the one located at the bottom of the list: Scottsdale, Ariz. “Not only is Arizona the sunniest state, exposing residents to high levels of UV light all year round, but it also scores poorly on air pollution levels,” the study explains. “Inside the home, Arizona has some of the hardest water in the U.S., and residents spend more on air-conditioning — which can dry out the skin — to combat the high temperatures than anywhere else in the country.
