TheWitcher prequel show BloodOrigin will explore the origins of the mysterious monoliths.
The upcoming prequel show The Witcher: Blood Origin will explore the origins of the mysterious monoliths which featured so heavily in The Witcher season 2. Based on the book series created by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, The Witcher made its streaming debut on Netflix in 2019 with its first eight-episode season starring Henry Cavill as the Witcher Geralt of Rivia.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Set 1200 years before the events of The Witcher, Blood Origin will reveal the creation of the very first Witcher and the events which ultimately led to the Conjunction of the Spheres – an event that saw different worlds collide and resulted in the introduction of humans and monsters into the world of the Continent.
We learn the origin of the monoliths here. Who first made these monoliths? Why? And then we kind of understand how they became so important in the world of The Witcher later and the power that was bestowed upon them and how that came about. They’re the catalyst for a lot of what goes wrong in this world.
The Monoliths' Importance In The Witcher Universe Explained What makes the monoliths so interesting in the world of The Witcher is that they are not actually a part of the original lore from Sapkowski’s books. Rather the show’s creators appear to have taken their inspiration from a quest in The Witcher games, though their original meaning seems to have been repurposed.
First teased at the beginning of The Witcher season 1, when Ciri’s scream toppled a monolith in Cintra, whatever their origins, it became clear that the objects were intimately connected with Ciri’s role as the Daughter of Chaos. It was for Ciri’s abilitiy to access the monoliths’ power that Voleth Meir, the Deathless Mother, and the Wild Hunt sought to recruit her in the show's second season.
