Guardians fans are packing the park and purchasing too.
Despite spending less time at the games, fans are still spending as much at Progressive Field. CLEVELAND, Ohio - Fans are spending less time at Progressive Field this year, but they’re buying just as many concessions as they used to — despite shorter baseball games.
“What we’ve found out though is that people are just eating faster,” said Jim Pfander, the RubberDucks’ general manager. Fans took it in stride, Pfander said. People showed up to games earlier, and instead of waiting around to buy an ice cream sundae, they just got one earlier. Pfander said beer sales also didn’t drop, even though the RubberDucks kept the seventh-inning cutoff.
In sections 150 and 142 Progressive Field now has Mashgin self-checkouts, the same kind you may have seen at a local Circle K. Fans place their items down on a platform, and the machines snap photos to quickly scan the items. No barcodes needed.
