The Ohio State University successfully trademarked the “THE” in front of its name after a three-year long effort to do so and a deal with a fashion company.
, but it was denied, partially because fashion company Marc Jacobs was also trying to trademark “the” for use on handbags and other items. In 2021 the university and clothing company came to an agreement where both could use “THE” branded products.
