While The Last Of Us season 1 earned some serious praise for Bill and Frank's episode, season 2 won't be including another special episode.

The Last of Us season 2 won't include any more special episodes. In its episode 3 love story, The Last of Us season 1 received widespread acclaim for the love story between Bill and Frank . By diverting focus away from Ellie and Joel for the majority of the episode's runtime, The Last of Us took a serious risk and fleshed out a touching relationship from its source game, which only briefly touched on their dynamic.

Despite this acclaim and popularity for the story, Craig Mazin has confirmed in an interview with Deadline that The Last of Us season 2 won't include another special episode in the same vein as Bill and Frank's. The HBO show co-creator assures that while there will be "other beautiful things" explored in the next chapter of the show, they have a very good reason for not trying to repeat the season 1 episode's success.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT What you won’t see is, for instance, another very special episode with Bill and Frank, we aren’t going to milk it. When we do something that we think is beautiful, we let it be as it is and find other beautiful things to do. Why The Last of Us Season 2 Doesn't Need A Special Episode The purpose of the special episode in The Last of Us season 1 was to truly establish that love can still blossom in a world that has broken beyond repair, even fostering it.

Even despite changing focus away from Ellie and Joel, that story quietly builds their familial relationship for the remainder of The Last of Us season 1, opening up the possibility that all forms of love can be found even in odd places. Frank found his love trapped in a pit in the middle of a Cordyceps apocalypse, while Joel found a new daughter in an immune child with a violent streak.
