The Flash has another dip at the domestic box office following its catastrophic week 2 drop, falling behind 3 titles that were released earlier.
The Flash's week 3 box office is looking just as grim as ever. The DC Universe superhero movie, which stars controversial pop culture figure Ezra Miller in the title role, is one of the final remnants of the previous iteration of the franchise, which is being retooled by new DC Studios co-CEOS James Gunn and Peter Safran. The movie opened with a lukewarm $55 million before a catastrophic week 2 drop of 72.5 percent, the worst in DCU history.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Per Deadline, the The Flash box office is continuing its precipitous drop down the domestic box office chart. This weekend, it is already No. 8 on the chart, falling behind three other movies that were released before its lukewarm debut on June 16.
Can The Flash Even Make Its Budget Back? The Flash is already on its way toward dropping out of the domestic box office top 10 entirely. Its prospects at the international box office aren't much stronger, either. At the very least, its current worldwide total has exceeded its reported production budget of $200 million.
However, in order to break even, The Flash will need to make back its publicity and advertising budget as well. While the exact cost of P&A for the movie is unclear, it is reportedly around $150 million, so the movie will have to reach an adjusted goal of $350 million to get close to being in the black. Given how quickly it's dropping weekend on weekend, this doesn't seem like a strong possibility.
The Flash is already having to compete with new releases like No Hard Feelings and Indiana Jones and the DIal of Destiny, as well as the older holdovers that are sticking around on the charts. Going deeper into the summer, it will have even more competition with the impending releases of Insidious: The Last Door, the Barbie movie, and Oppenheimer, among others.
