Dallas has long been a national lagger when it comes to accessible park space.
But there is a whole city beyond downtown where people still aren’t within walking distance of a decent park. And this year, Dallas fell three spots in theRanking above us in Texas are Plano at 15th and Austin at 39th. The idea has merit, with some caveats. First, the city has an inventory of the land it owns, but it’s mixed up among several departments. Many vacant lots are inventoried with the Housing Department to build affordable homes while Park and Recreation manages its own land.It’s reasonable to gather in one place the location, size, market value, zoning and current use of all city-owned property and provide that to the mayor and council as a conversation starter.
