The 2024 Ford Mustang EcoBoost won't have a manual.
Now that the naturally aspirated V-6 Mustang is dead, the EcoBoost four-cylinder 'Stang is the cheapest way into the Ford pony car lineup. That car, which makes 310 hp in its current form and will be even more potent next year, is one of only a few sub-$30,000 rear-wheel-drive cars left on the market. With the high-performance pack and a stick, the current one can even be quite a bit of fun.
While manuals were historically more common on base models and cheap cars, Ford is not the first company to try the opposite strategy. The new Acura Integra, for instance, requires you to go for a fully loaded model if you want a manual. Same with the new Civic, where the Type R and Si are manual-only but the base car doesn't offer three pedals at all. Even the Supra's manual, introduced for this year, is available only on the more expensive, six-cylinder cars.
