On Friday the Department of Justice indicted Trump on 37 charges, including violations of the Espionage Act.WASHINGTON — Texas Republicans slammed a federal indictment against former President Donald Trump as a political attack even before the 37 felony charges related to his alleged mishandling of classified documents were unsealed Friday.
Trump is accused of keeping documents related to “nuclear weaponry in the United States” and the “nuclear capabilities of a foreign country,” along with documents from White House intelligence briefings, including some that detail the military capabilities of the U.S. and other countries, according to the indictment. The documents also allege that he described a Pentagon “plan of attack” and shared a classified map related to a military operation.
It is the second indictment against Trump, who is the first former president ever to face criminal charges. He has also been charged by New York prosecutors in connection to alleged hush payments he made to an adult film star during the 2016 presidential campaign."It’s an ugly day for Democracy when a sitting U.S. President running for re-election uses the Department of Justice to indict and arrest his leading opponent," Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted.
