“I’m excited to embark on a new chapter in my life and plan on fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing professional football,” Johnson wrote. “It’s been a hell of a ride, and I thank you all for everything.”
Johnson rushed for 2,190 yards and 23 touchdowns over four seasons in Austin. Backing up Bijan Robinson this season, Johnson ran for 554 yards on 93 carries with five touchdowns. Texas is scheduled to face No. 12 Washington in the Valero Alamo Bowl on Thursday, Dec. 29 in San Antonio.
