Calling Philadelphia a “sanctuary city,” the Republican governor said in a news release Tuesday that it’s “an ideal addition to Texas’ list of drop-off locations,” which has included“Texas’ busing strategy has successfully provided much-needed relief to our border communities overwhelmed by the historic influx of migrants caused by President Biden’s reckless open border policies,” Abbott said.
The state has not coordinated with Philadelphia officials, according to a news release from Mayor Jim Kenney’s office. It said they found out about the plan last week from a local organization, New Sanctuary Movement of Philadelphia, that had information from a Texas nonprofit.
