It might be a good year for Texas fans. Media representatives have predicted the Texas Longhorns as winners of this season’s Big 12 conference. Texas was able to sweep in 41 first-place votes and a total of 886 points.
TEXAS — For the first time after Big 12 switched to a divisonless format in 2011, media representatives have predicted the Texas Longhorns as winners of this season’s conference. They haven’t received this level of confidence in first-place picks since 2009. Last year, Texas came in at No. 4, ranking below Baylor, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
Texas was able to sweep in 41 first-place votes and a total of 886 points, with the reigning Big 12 champs Kansas State pulling in 14 and 858 points to earn second place. Oklahoma followed third, with four first-place votes and 758 points. Come 2024, they’re to join Texas in the SEC. Texas Tech also got four first-place votes with 729 points and took the fourth spot in the preseason poll. Texas Christian University slid into the last spot of the top five, garnering three first-place votes and 727 points. TCU appeared in the Big 12 Championship Game and CFP National Championship Game.
The sixth spot went to Baylor with 575 points. The final first-place vote was for No. 7 Oklahoma State, collecting 470 points.
