The return of Ainias Smith has changed the look of A&M's depth at receiver so UTEP...

Texas A&M wide receiver Ainias Smith is back for another season, a move that could mean transfer Tyrin Smith goes back to UTEP.COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M added speedy receiver Tyrin Smith from UTEP from the transfer portal in January. UTEP might be adding Smith back.

The Aggies also started spring drills minus a handful of starting offensive linemen, primarily because of injuries: center Bryce Foster, center Matthew Wykoff and tackle Trey Zuhn. Fisher said in addition tight end Max Wright, another senior leader, and redshirt freshman offensive lineman Hunter Erb will not take part in spring drills because of injuries.

The Aggies finished 5-7 last year with Fisher calling plays for one of the nation’s worst scoring offenses . After the season Fisher fired offensive coordinator Darrell Dickey, who was more of a consultant than true offensive coordinator, and hired Bobby Petrino to run the offense — although Petrino truly running the offense is debatable following Fisher’s first visit with media in more than three months.

Fisher and Petrino, who was the head coach at Missouri State the last three seasons, coached against each other in the Atlantic Coast Conference when Fisher was at Florida State and Petrino at Louisville for a second time from 2014-2018.
