Mississippi allows sales of wine and beer with alcohol content below 5%. New York just permits beer sales. Thirteen other states prohibit sale of liquor, wine and beer on Christmas Day.

Lawmakers have tried to change the rules, such as in 2013, when Houston Democratic Rep. Senfronia Thompsonthat would allow liquor stores to open on Sundays, as well as lift the ban on sales the Monday after Christmas or New Year’s Day.
