Police and firefighters were busy moving trees and branches from roads, closing streets with downed power lines and contacting CEI for repairs after a storm left the area Aug. 25. Residents complained after several days of closed roads.
While on patrol shortly after midnight Aug. 25, an officer found a large tree down and blocking both lanes of travel. A utility pole was broken with wires down. The officer notified the fire and road departments.Police and firefighters were dispatched shortly after midnight Aug. 25 for a report of a fire in the woods behind a house.
The fire was found to be a downed power line that was arcing in the road. Trees were on fire in the area of Music Street in neighboring Newbury Township. Both departments assisted.Smoke coming from a resident’s generator Aug. 25 prompted a call to emergency dispatch. Police and firefighters responded and shut down the generator. Advice was given to the resident.Faced with a flooding basement, a resident called emergency dispatch at 6:33 a.m. Aug. 25.
The officer put the signs back in place and marked the area with caution tape until trees and utility wires could be removed.A fallen tree blocked access to the entire street on this private road for several days following the Aug. 24-25 storm. Residents became upset Aug. 27 and called police.An officer reminded CEI that the street could not be accessed for emergencies.
