Tanner Holden enters the transfer portal after one season at Ohio State.
The Wheelersburg, Ohio, native transferred to Ohio State last spring after three seasons at Wright State to begin his college career, but Holden won't remain with the Buckeyes for his final year of eligibility. Holden has entered the transfer portal following a season in which he averaged 3.6 points in 13.6 minutes per game across 27 appearances in scarlet and gray.
In his final season at Wright State, Holden averaged 20.1 points per game for an NCAA Tournament team and scored the sixth-most total points in the country. But he didn't enjoy the same level of success or opportunity in the Big Ten. Holden scored a season-high 12 points in the 2022-23 season opener against Robert Morris, but didn't crack double figures again for the rest of the year. Holden never started a game for Ohio State and didn't play at all for seven straight games through the end of February and the start of March.
Holden returned to the Buckeye lineup for Ohio State's final two games of the season, in which starting forward and leading scorer Brice Sensabaugh was out with an injury. Holden scored three points in five minutes against Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament and pulled down four rebounds in 12 minutes of action in a losing effort against Purdue in the semifinal round of the tournament.
The highlight of Holden's tenure at Ohio State was undoubtedly his game-winning 3-point buzzer-beater to beat Rutgers in the Buckeyes' Big Ten opener on Dec. 8, 2022.
