City hall’s latest release of the incomes of its ever-growing list of employees who make more than $50,000 a year had one of the most eye-popping payouts seen. A “building custodian” named Robert Mazer madeMany people in Saskatoon were struggling in 2021, the second year of the COVID-19 pandemic. Businesses faced restrictions due to provincial pandemic mandates. And many city buildings sat mostly empty for much of the year to try to prevent the spread of the deadly disease.
Mazer’s job classification of “building custodian 3” usually is rewarded with a salary of about $40,000 a year, according to the CUPE 59 union wage grid and city job postings.Article content But Mazer’s name does not appear on the city’s salary list for the five previous years, indicating he either was not working for the city or that he may have been employed by city hall, but his earnings failed to crack the $50,000 barrier.
