Joshi hopes to change the world with a new kind of activism
Over the past two years, Elise Joshi has gone from a TikTok instigator to an impactful labor activist. At age 20, she is the executive director of Gen-Z for Change, a nonprofit organization leveraging social media to promote civil discourse and political action among her peers.
It was really just starting a new era of organizing. What we were familiar with was a lot of on-the-ground efforts but with the pandemic, all of that was brought to a halt. What we had to rely on was social media and so through those years we developed tools that made us very knowledgeable on how to accurately get information out there.
So aside from political campaigns and elections, it’s clear you have added labor movements to your priority list. How is that going? Where do you think your generation fits within the historical context of labor rights and unionization. And where do you seeing your generation taking things from here on out?
