A Prairie View letter to the editor: Congress passed the PACT Act to compensate veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange which caused their hypertension.
Congress passed the PACT Act to compensate veterans who were exposed to Agent Orange which caused their hypertension. The way the law was worded is flawed.
You are supposed to get a rating if your blood pressure is constantly high. For the rest of your life, you must take medication to regulate your blood pressure for Hypertension. This causes your blood pressure reading to no longer be high. It is close to normal. The VA gives you a"0" rating with no compensation since your blood pressure is now close to normal with the pills. Even with a letter from a doctor stating your blood pressure would be extremely high, you get a"0" rating.
When not on medication, even with a rating of 200/100, you get a"0" rating. If you go off your meds to prove your blood pressure is extremely high, you can die. That is what the VA wants, then they do not have to pay for what they exposed you to. There was no sense in passing a bill for compensation with this type of flaw.
