New York Magazine has deemed 2022 as “the year of the nepo baby” on its cover story.

Hush little famous babies, don’t you cry.

New York Magazine defined 2022 as “the year of the Nepo Baby” for its most recent issue, but the magazine’s cover,The heads of famous children born to Hollywood stars — including Dakota Johnson, Lily-Rose Depp, Ben Platt and Zoë Kravitz — are edited onto babies’ bodies, along with bright pink text that reads, “She has her Mother’s eyes. And agent.”

As explained in the article written by Vulture senior writer Nate Jones, the two-word term is used to describe the successful kin of the industry’s biggest names who are widely believed to already have an advantage in Hollywood because of their parents. “This is the nepo baby’s credo: Try, and if at first you don’t succeed, remember you’re still a celebrity’s child, so try, try again,” Jones writes. The lengthy article goes on to criticize Brooklyn Beckham, Maya Hawke and several other celebrity kin, but Twitter has started a debate merely about the cover.
