Former security guard Steven Hobbs pleads guilty, gets life sentence in prostitute killings

Steven Hobbs, a former security guard from Crosby accused of raping or killing six prostitutes, has pleaded guilty to two murders, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Monday. Hobbs, 51, pleaded to the reduced charge of murder from capital murder in the death of Sara Sanford and to murder in the death of Patricia Pyatt.

Investigators believe he had been targeting prostitutes in the east Harris County area, near where he worked. Some charges were reduced from capital murder to murder, while others — two counts of aggravated sexual assault, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated kidnapping — were dismissed as part of the plea deal. The sentence includes two consecutive life sentences.“He will not get out,” another prosecutor, Jennifer Meriwether, said. “I think he finally, after 11 years, faced the reality that he was going to have to listen to again. He chose instead to take a plea deal.
