State 7-on-7 notebook: Hightower, Shadow Creek have strong showings
Hightower pulled out a 27-25 victory over Dripping Springs in the first round Saturday before falling 34-27 against College Station. The Hurricanes finished with a 4-1 record at the tournament altogether.
Shadow Creek defeated McAllen Rowe 26-19 in the opening round before a 13-6 victory over College Park. The Sharks then earned a 29-21 quarterfinal win over Richardson Pearce and a 32-7 triumph against Westwood in the semifinals. They ultimately lost 25-0 against Byron Nelson in the title game. Lamar also had a strong showing in the consolation bracket, advancing to the quarterfinals before suffering a 21-14 loss to Byron Nelson. The Texans, who have won 12 district championships since 2010, opened the day with a 26-12 victory over Jordan and a 20-13 triumph against San Antonio Johnson.There were plenty of eyes on D.J. Lagway this week, and for good reason.
