The process for making cultured meat usually starts with cells taken from a living animal. Those cells are immersed in nutrients and grown into meat in a lab.

A meatball made of lab-grown mammoth meat was unveiled at a science museum in the Netherlands on Tuesday.

A meatball made from flesh cultivated using the DNA of an extinct woolly mammoth is presented at NEMO Science Museum created by a cultured meat company, in Amsterdam, Netherlands March 28, 2023.No one has tasted the mammoth meat, Vow founder Tim Noakesmith disclosed. Human cells help researchers understand squid camouflageHuman cells help researchers understand squid camouflageSquids and octopuses are masters of camouflage, blending into their environment to evade predators or surprise prey. Some aspects of how these cephalopods become reversibly transparent are still 'unclear,' largely because researchers can't culture cephalopod skin cells in the lab. Today, however, researchers report that they have replicated the tunable transparency of some squid skin cells in mammalian cells, which can be cultured. The work could not only shed light on basic squid biology, but also lead to better ways to image many cell types.
