Chicago is dyeing the river green this weekend ahead of the St. Patrick's Day parade. Here's everything you need to know before you head downtown.
The city announced the river would be dyed green amid toned down Chicago St. Patrick's Day celebrations.
According to the city's Office of Emergency Management and Communications, the Chicago River will be dyed green beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022. The Chicago River dyeing will take place just west of the Columbus bridge to the east of Orleans before Wolf Point.The river dyeing can be viewed along the river from Upper Wacker Drive.
The Chicago Riverwalk will be closed from 11 p.m. on Friday, March 11, through the day on Saturday, March 12 until 6 a.m. on Sunday, March 13.How does Chicago dye the river green for St. Patrick's Day? Saturday will be sunny but very cold and breezy, with wind chills only in the single digits. The temperature is expected to hit 20 by the time the river dyeing starts at 10 a.m., but it will only feel like 5 degrees. Watch the latestChicago's St. Patrick's Day Parade will step off at 12:15 p.m. at Balbo and Columbus Drive proceeding north on Columbus to Monroe Street. The viewing stand will be located in front of Buckingham Fountain.
