It should reach the low 70s in Chicago Monday, but the warm weather won't last, meteorologists said.
Chicagoans can expect “one more nice day” before a storm system moves in late Monday, dropping the temperature for most of the week, which is expected to be gray and rainy, according to forecasters with the National Weather Service.
Just one day into astronomical spring, the high temperature in the metro area could top off in the low 70s, which isSunday, which was the spring equinox, saw a high of 63 degrees at O’Hare International Airport, the city’s official weather monitoring site, and even that was well above what is typical for this time of year, said meteorologist Todd Kluber.
“The normal high temperature for is 48, so this is definitely above normal,” Kluber said. “We’re running about 10 degrees above normal for what we would expect for this time of year.” Monday is expected to be even warmer, if windy. The weather service said: “Breezy southwest winds will also be present with gusts upward of 20 to 25 mph during the afternoon.”Shortly after midnight, the temperature is expected to drop significantly and it will start to rain, with sprinkles lingering “through Thursday as a potent low-pressure system moves through the area,” according to the weather service.
The high temperature Tuesday is expected to be 57 degrees, Wednesday’s high will be 63 degrees and Thursday the high temperature will be in the low 40s, according to the weather service.“The sun is expected to return on Friday, but with cooler temperatures in the mid-40s to lower 50s,” according to the weather service.
