Oscar Gonzalez’s heroics made it impossible for Hrusovsky to go unnoticed in the crowd. Even though other fans were wearing SpongeBob gear, Hrusovsky’s take on America’s favorite absorbent, yellow and porous protagonist really stood out.
A native of Cleveland’s Old Brooklyn neighborhood, Hrusovsky does not want to take credit for starting the trend, but he is thrilled that Cleveland fans were able to unite under SpongeBob’s banner.
When Hrusovsky is not busy bringing the Guardians fanbase together disguised as a Nickelodeon star, the senior digital media major at Bowling Green State University is working on working onof every baseball field used for official high school games in the United States. It’s a project he started in April 2020 that has grown to include data on four complete states with a goal of finishing all 50.
“It was really crazy not just being known for the SpongeBob thing and having some people being genuinely interested in the baseball field project,” he said. But before that, Hrusovsky plans to attend Guards Fest on Saturday. Of course, he will be wearing his signature SpongeBob costume and hopes to steal a moment or two with Gonzalez in person to thank him for what he accomplished on the field.
