Police identified the suspect as a 52-year-old BART employee who was on duty at the time.

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO – A BART employee has been arrested in connection with a fatal hit-and-run collision earlier this month in South San Francisco, police said.

In the early morning hours of April 5, a pedestrian was struck by a driver while trying to cross southbound lanes in the 1500 block of El Camino Real, according to the South San Francisco Police Department. The pedestrian died of his injuries at the scene. The San Mateo County Coroner’s Office identified the pedestrian as 45-year-old South San Francisco resident William King.

Following an investigation, detectives identified the driver as 52-year-old Newman resident Joaquin Duarte. Police said Duarte was working as a BART systems service fore worker at the time of the crash. Detectives on Tuesday arrested Duarte and booked him into San Mateo County Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run. He remained in custody Wednesday.
