Sonic Frontiers' newly announced Monster Hunter DLC raises some slightly disturbing implications. Sonic has always been partial to a chili dog, but the meat-cooking minigame from Monster Hunter comes from players actually hunting their own food... 😬
The upcoming Sonic Frontiers will be receiving free Monster Hunter DLC, where Sonic will be able to chow down on animal meat that he has cooked in the wild. This isn't the first time that the two franchises have crossed over, as Sonic and Tails appeared in Monster Hunter Rise as costumes for hunters and palicos.
The Sonic the Hedgehog games started out with an environmental theme, as Dr. Robotnik covers the planet in machinery and turns wild animals into robots. Sonic himself had no problem eating meat, as his favorite food throughout the franchise is chili dogs. These are hot dogs covered in onions and chili, and while the frank could technically be made from a meat substitute, the series never goes out of its way to establish this as fact.
Sonic Will Be Cooking Animal Flesh In Monster Hunter DLC The inclusion of cooking meat in Sonic Frontiers through the Monster Hunter DLC isn't too surprising, as the Monster Hunter series loves grilled meat. What's more disturbing is the implications of its inclusion. In the Monster Hunter series, Raw Meat is commonly acquired from killing monsters , and then carving the flesh from their body.
It's surprising that the Monster Hunter crossover doesn't actually involve adding any of the famous monsters as bosses. The Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy crossover brought Behemoth and Rathalos into different games, while Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker pitted Snake against monsters. Monster Hunter and Sonic the Hedgehog have crossed over before, but maybe there are limits as to what both companies agreed to, and Sonic chowing down on meat is the most that could be included.
