Almost 25 years after Wayne Adam Ford walked into the sheriff’s office in Eureka with a woman’s breast in a Ziploc bag, his first victim has finally been given a name.When Ford turned himself in, he said he had killed several women, including the one whose torso had been found a year earlier, in October 1997, by a duck hunter on Ryan Slough, near Eureka.
The sister told Humboldt County investigators that Kerry Cummings, who was “dearly loved” by her family, had untreated mental health issues and had resisted her parents’ entreaties to come live with them. After they lost contact, they tried to report her as a missing person. On Nov. 3, 1998, Ford walked into the sheriff’s station in Eureka and produced from his pocket a severed breast in a Ziploc bag. He told investigators that, while working as a trucker, he had killed four women in 1997 and 1998 and dumped them in California waterways.• Tina Renee Gibbs, 26. Killed on May 16, 1998, near Las Vegas. Her body was found on June 2 near Buttonwillow, Calif.
