A 24-year-old Central California police officer shot and killed this week had been on the force less than two years and was preparing to become a parent, authorities said Wednesday.
As Carrasco left his car and approached the suspect, the man opened fire and shot the officer several times, according to a statement from the Fresno County Sheriff's Office. Carrasco died at a hospital. Nathaniel Dixon of Selma faces multiple charges including murder, being a felon in possession of a gun and ammunition, as well as probation violation. It wasn't known Wednesday if he has an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
