Official concept art from BlackPantherWakandaForever reveals that Shuri almost donned wings in an early version of the Marvel sequel.
New concept art reveals Shuri almost had wings in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Shuri became the main character of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever following leading man Chadwick Boseman's untimely death prior to the film entering production. Marvel Studios decided not to recast Boseman's T'Challa out of respect for the actor.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Concept artist Phil Saunders shared a look at Shuri donning wings in an early concept for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Shuri has worn wings in the comics, with a version of her Black Panther suit even including them. Saunders noted that the piece was made before Boseman's passing, at a time when artists knew very little about Black Panther: Wakanda Forever's original story.
Shuri's initial role was to provide support to T'Challa and to increase Wakanda's technological standing. Now, though, it seems likely that in taking up the Black Panther mantle, Shuri could become one of Earth's Mightiest Heroes in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The MCU's biggest team is facing a shake-up, with new members poised to join the Avengers' ranks in the fight against Kang the Conqueror.
Shuri's MCU future will likely include another Avengers appearance in the form of Secret Wars. With its use of the multiverse, Avengers: Secret Wars could present Shuri with a way to meet T'Challa again. The MCU could decide to bring in a new actor in the role of T'Challa as a variant of the hero, with Wright's Shuri having to navigate the complicated feelings such a meeting would entail.
