Sen. Sherrod Brown (D-OH) announced a fundraising haul of $5 million for the second quarter of 2023. A Republican challenger, Bernie Moreno, who was endorsed by Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), brought in $2.2 million.

Brown is bracing for a tough battle for reelection. His seat is rated a toss-up by the Cook Political Report. The Ohio senator's campaign told the Messenger that only 5% of the donations were over $100.According to Moreno, his campaign raked in $2.2 million to challenge Brown in the first three months."That's all from individual donors. Nothing from me. None of my personal money. No super PAC money. And $1.

State Sen. Matt Dolan is also seeking the Republican nomination for Senate. His campaign did not respond to the Washington Examiner's request for second-quarter fundraising data. In a recent East Carolina University poll, Brown narrowly defeats both Moreno and Dolan. Brown defeats Dolan by just 1 percentage point, 45% to 44%, and Moreno by 4 points, 46% to 42%.Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose has also been speculated to enter the Republican primary field but has yet to make an announcement. “I am preparing to, hopefully soon announce my candidacy for this office,” he reportedly said in a voicemail to a supporter, according to NBC News.
