The full extent of One Piece's masterful storytelling and foreshadowing is shown by how it showed Shanks using Haki in the manga's very first chapter.
Many One Piece fans have claimed that the manga's creator Eiichiro Oda has planned the entire story from the start and Shanks' appearance in the series' very first chapter proves this to be true. This, of course, is yet one piece of evidence among many examples of Oda's brilliant foreshadowing. But what makes this Shanks moment stand out is how significant it is, both in what it was foreshadowing and its bearing on the story as a whole.
This isn't to imply that the other foreshadowing moments in One Piece haven't been excellent because they definitely have. The reveal of Sanji actually being a member of One Piece's version of the Power Rangers was hinted at all the way back in Jaya and only gained more hints as the series went on until it was revealed over a decade later.

While there, a giant Sea King appears and attacks the pair. Luckily Shanks is able to show up and save the future pirate, although he does lose an arm in the process.
What makes this so impressive is that Haki was first explicitly revealed over 500 chapters after Shanks frightened away the Sea King. So Oda knew from the very beginning of the series that he was going to be implementing a secondary power system in the series. In addition, Shanks' mastery of Haki makes him strong enough to be one of One Piece's Yonko despite never having eaten a Devil Fruit.
While no writer can have a series like One Piece planned out to the most minute detail in advance, Oda clearly was able to work out some of its more important details. This likely includes the entire broader story structure, which is insanely impressive given how epic in scale One Piece's plot is. But it is this superb level of planning that makes some of One Piece's best revelations hit all the harder and Shanks' initial appearance is a perfect example of that.
