Manager Gabe Kapler called Rodón’s outing “really interesting” because Rodón showed a strong fastball and slider and was throwing strikes, but “it felt like everything they put in play, hard or soft, was a hit.” Evident of their approach, Rodón threw only 70 pitches before Kapler came out with the hook with two outs in the fourth inning. Uncharacteristically, he generated swings and misses on only seven of them .

On Sunday, they combined to drive in five of the Cardinals’ 13 runs with four hits — two home runs — in seven at-bats.
González also homered off Pujols, for three of the Giants’ four runs in the ninth inning that made it 15-6. Joey Bart also lofted a home run off the 42-year-old designated hitter making his first-ever appearance on the mound.
