The Hays Pittsburgh Bald Eagles welcomed the new member of their family just after 7 a.m. Tuesday.
, the first of two expected eaglets hatched shortly after noon on Sunday to the Hays Pittsburgh Bald Eagles since they were laid – one on Feb. 17 and the other Feb. 20 – almost 37 days ago.
The eggs usually take between 35-38 days to hatch, so naturally, the second egg was expected to hatch any minute. Now, two days later, the eaglet’s parents welcomed the new member to their family just after 7 a.m. Tuesday, the release said. Much like its sibling, the parents will feed the new eaglet by bringing back food, tearing it into small pieces, and leaning over to feed it. The adult eagles will remain on the nest constantly to keep the baby birds warm. As the eagles grow, the parents will continue to bring in food and feed them.
